I am a textile artist. I work with wool fleece to produce felt which can be cobweb fine or as strong as leather! I also use a range of natural fabrics, yarns and leathers to produce hand-knitted garments, handbags, scarves and corsages.
I am a scientist by training but an artist in temperament! I have a doctorate in medical microbiology and an avid interest and awareness of the natural world. This has been a constant influence in my work particularly as I endeavour to use local, natural materials as much as possible.
We are fortunate to have the Cotswold Woollen Mill at Filkins and I have incorporated their beautiful tweeds and yarns in many of the bags I make. I am passionate about supporting British wool producers and work with both natural and dyed fleece from Welsh, Shetland and Scottish flocks.
Felt is an extremely versatile medium and I love working with the undyed natural colours to produce 3-dimensional structural bags and vessels. In contrast, I produce vibrant, cobweb-fine felt using dyed merino and silks which are then made into scarves or embellished to make exotic bags.
