Philipp Wachsmann studied composition with Nadia Boulanger and violin with Isolde Menges. He pioneered new sounds using the violin and electronics. He can be heard on over 90 LPs/CDs and plays worldwide. Recent recordings can be found on ECM and includes the Stellari Quartet on the Emanem label. He has performed with the leading musicians in his field, such as Evan Parker, Fred van Hove, Ken Vandemark, the late Derek Bailey, Barry Guy, and Tony Oxley. He is a member of the large London Jazz Composers Orchestra, and formed the Imaginary String Trio but often works as a soloist alone or with other groups. He often conducts his own pieces with the London Improvisation Orchestra. He is concerned with performance art and works with visual artists, dance and architecture. He also teaches composition.
